ext_393041: perfect Spock (k/s enterprise)

"My presence here is not entirely logical, given the state of the Vulcan people," Spock started, and Jim noticed he didn't say my people, which begged a new set of questions. "However, my future self wisely pointed out that I can, essentially, be in two places at once."

Jim's jaw dropped. "What?!"

Spock looked away, apparently fascinated by a speck on the boring white wall. "I am aware that Ambassador Spock allowed your conclusions regarding potential disasters of doppelganger encounters to be taken as fact, and I am--"

"Wait. Stop. Look at me." Jim laid his palms flat on the table, valiantly resisting the urge to turn them into fists. "You met Spock? I mean, you met yourself, the older you from the future?"

"Affirmative."

"How was it?" Jim asked, curiosity distracting him from his planned interrogation. Spock frowned, so Jim clarified. "What was it like to meet your future self? My experience with him was pretty mind-blowing," literally, "and he only knew me; he wasn't me." Jim shut up then, because he'd already said too much, and Spock was the one meant to be disclosing everything. A little give and take was all right, though, he supposed.

Spock looked surprised - either at Jim's question or Jim's description of his encounter with the older Spock, he wasn't sure. Maybe it was both. Spock rallied himself and answered, "It was enlightening."

Jim listened for what Spock wasn't saying, then leaned over the table and grinned at him. "And it was infuriating as hell."

"Indeed," Spock granted, a small upward curl of his lip fighting its way into a smile.

Jim felt suddenly better about the whole thing. Common ground, that's all they needed. A heck of a lot of common ground.

Love it, so much. It showing how much they already understand each other. Completely awesome!
