ext_393041: perfect Spock (love you k/s)

"Help me do what?" Spock asked, suspicion lacing his tone.

Funny how Spock held everything in but wordlessly demanded Jim spill his emotional guts.

"Anything," Jim answered with an encouraging smile. "Anything at all. Need anything right now?"

"A glass of water," Spock replied.

Jim's face fell. Dammit! He opens up, and Spock shuts him down! Was this how their entire mission was going to be?

"Jim."

Internal rant interrupted, he looked up and saw the smuggest, most smartass face on a Vulcan he'd ever seen, complete with a raised eyebrow and eyes sparkling with something like...humor. "You're having me on!" he accused with a gasp, caught somewhere between relief and irritation. He wanted to reach out to Spock, but he wasn't sure if it was to hug him or hit him. He reached out before deciding and ended up giving Spock's forearm a firm squeeze.

Spock looked down sharply at the touch, and opened his mouth to say something.

But instead of Spock's voice, Jim heard Chekov's. "Captain, we are picking up something wery strange on our long-range sensors."

Jim flipped the comm switch, as he stoop up. "I'll be right there."

Suddenly, the whole ship shuddered. Jim wobbled, grabbing onto the back of the chair. "Bridge! Report!"

"We've been fired upon, Sir!"

"Yeah, I could tell! Evasive maneuvers! I'm on my way!"

Spock was one step behind him. "I will assist you."

Jim grinned as he - they - jogged the corridors of his ship. He didn't know the scope of Spock's statement: whether Spock had been offering help for the immediate crisis or if he'd been answering Jim's earlier request for help to win at this captaining thing. Jim hoped it was both. If his intuition was to be trusted, he was sure it was both.
