See, every time someone says the word Generations I get this twitch, even now, nearly eighteen years after the *cough*... film was first released. And my mind comes up with this long list of insults for Rick Berman and the Paramount decision makers at the time, that considering I grew up in a household with three brothers, can be impressively colorful. So [livejournal.com profile] dracavia, who has this awesome habit of finding really cool links, sent this article to me, and I nodded so fervently while reading it I may need a chiropractor come morning. Anyway, the article is called "The 5 Worst Deaths Written for Great Characters (And Why)" so you can imagine what said article contained. It can be found here on cracked.com.

Line of note from the article...

While watching "Star Trek: Generations" we knew something was wrong when, during a face-off with the movie's main bad guy with Captain Picard, Kirk tells Picard to hold off the bad guy for him. James T. Kirk passing the chance to punch a dude? That's like a heroin addict saying, "Man, can you shoot up my stash for me? I got an errand to run."

Heh, I love this guy!

Enjoy!

Psst - read the captions to the photos, they're particularly hilarious. ;)

Here's the thing, these things always make me a little nervous, can't help it *sheepish grin*. I could probably do a more thorough self-exploration into why, but basically, in the spirit of total honesty, it can probably all boil down to that little bit of insecurity I still feel no matter how long I've participated in fandom(s), or how many fics I've written, nor how big my accumulated word count has grown, or how wonderful and supportive my flist and readership is (and you guys are certainly that, gods, have I told you lately just how much I appreciate it?!). But I'd love to help, in any way that I can (I still have guilt for being on a little bit of a medical related hiatus during Help!Japan last year and not helping out then, too). Also, I don't really have the fiances right now to send on a monetary donation myself, especially not with the holidays so close behind us, and my daughter's pre-k tuition for January soon due, so my words are really all I have to offer at the present point in time. So with all of that said, I have this bid here.

A big, huge thank you to any who are considering bidding for any of the offers listed, not just my own. :)

I've had this journal since 2003, it makes me too sad to ever think of abandoning it totally, so I will undoubtedly be here until the bitter end. However, I do have a dreamwidth account, and it is updated regularly through their lovely import feature (dreamwidth is very cool with their features, I've got to admit) and I've now decided to start cross-posting instead of relying on importing. I've had the account there for a while as I'm one of those who believes in backing-up to the point of being rather anal about it, lol (this is one of the reasons I cross post my stories in other locations, I'm partially terrified that I may lose them if I only kept them here). It's jaylee_g there as well, so if any of you who are also over there are thus inclined, please do look me up. My friending policy is the same as it's always been, those of you already on my flist here, know that I would adore to see you and have you on my flist there as well. I love you guys *group hug*. Those of you who are new, I mostly always friend back (with the caveat that first I do a cursory look on your profile page to see if we share a fandom in common or what other interests we might share, to get to know you better, and to make sure that the journal isn't a ghost one).

In other news, I haven't been writing much since I wrote my Advent fic, too caught up in being sick and the holiday bustle, I guess, but got inspired during a bubble bath last night with a new fic idea (I get inspired at the weirdest times and places, I swear *sheepish grin*), and am currently writing with a vengeance. Feels kinda good to be immersed in something again. And just in case you were wondering, the story is both TOS and AOS, and I don't mean that as in it's vague enough to fit into either universe, what I mean is that contains components of both universes, and not in a 'Kirk Prime finds his way into AOS verse' way either or vice versa... you'll just have to wait and see what I mean (and yes, I'm a tease, but ya'll knew this). :)

And now, so this post isn't entirely without humor, here's some more Takei macros (you guys can tell me if you get tired of seeing these, I promise I wont go through posting withdrawals... too much ;)). Happy Thursday! :)

So I woke up this morning, still battling with the previously mentioned 'cold of terror' (because the damn virus is not going away already) and my husband, bless him, turned to me and said, "I found something that will make you smile."

So I've had kind of a crappy day. Which has been the culmination of kind of a crappy week. And it's only Tuesday *sigh*. So I thought, I need a laugh and a smile. Where are the first places I visit when I need a laugh and a smile? That's right, George Takei's facebook page and awesome ST comics. :D

So [livejournal.com profile] coeurdesoleil  mentioned having a rewatch of 'Star Trek: Undiscovered Country' this weekend in honor of the 20th anniversary of its awesomeness and I thought, hmmm... viewing party!

We're thinking this Sunday, Dec. 11 at 1 PM PST (9 PM GMT).

What do you think, guys? Whose with us?

'Undiscovered Country' is 20 years old today. Yay 'Undiscovered Country'! The related article. Though this kind of makes me feel a little bit old, to be honest. I remember seeing it in the theater with friends... *sigh*

But my lamenting the fact that twenty freakin' years have passed, oh my god, really?! aside, Star Trek 6 marked the last time we got to see the TOS cast together, and it was a fantastic film, so this one's to you 'Star Trek: Undiscovered Country' *raises drink in toast*.

An in-depth analysis on James T. Kirk from both universes...

~*~*~*~*

"The greatest danger facing us is ourselves, an irrational fear of the unknown. There is no such thing as the unknown - only things temporarily hidden, temporarily not understood." ~ Jim Kirk, 'The Corbomite Maneuver'

"No wants - no needs? We weren't meant for that. None of us. Man stagnates if he has no ambition, no desire to be more than he is." ~ Jim Kirk, 'This Side of Paradise'

"Without freedom of choice, there is no creativity. Without creativity, there is no life." ~ Jim Kirk, 'Return of the Archons'

"We show them compassion-- it may be the only way to earn peace with Romulus. It's logic, Spock! I thought you'd like that." ~ Jim Kirk, 'ST:AOS'
